Roald Dahl Plass is very much a landmark and a Cardiff destination, a stunningly attractive public space situated at the heart of Cardiff Bay, Cardiff’s leisure district, which lies just south of the city centre.
Roald Dahl Plass is home to the Senedd (Welsh Assembly Building) and the Wales Millennium Centre, the leading Welsh concert hall which has become a Cardiff icon, and the “square” occupies a bowl-like elyptical space which was once called “The Oval Basin”.
The basin is a popular venue for concerts and festivals and will become a location for an MM Events Group’s popular International Street Markets known as Global Gatherings.
It is an apt venue as this location once served the world as Cardiff Bay was once part of the old Docks area and subsequently became a multicultural community of dockworkers and longshoremen from Europe, the Commonwealth and beyond.
It has now long been regenerated into a thriving area of bars and restaurants of Mermaid Quay and the whole Cardiff Bay area buzzes with life, particularly at weekends and in the evenings when the surrounding pillars are illuminated to make this one of the UK’s great event locations.
